Alternative Energy Off-Grid Log Home for Sale
Alternative Energy Off-Grid Log Home for Sale

Hello, we're John & Cheryl Benton, the owners of this solar energy-efficient home. We are forced to sell due to illness (see Cancer). This is a partially-completed off the grid house: the outside is weather-tight and mostly finished. The majority of work remaining is inside the house. We had planned to finish this log home and do most of the work ourselves.

Now on sale for $322,000. (Replacement cost = $400,000 not considering our sweat equity.)

This property is in the White Mountains area (elevation 5600 feet) of NE Arizona, in the Southwestern part of Apache County. It is at the intersection of Old Hunt Road (Apache County Road 5270) and Blue Diamond Drive (Apache County Road 5525). This is 3.5 miles north of Concho Highway (Apache County Road 5020) on Blue Diamond Drive. For maps showing the location, please see Maps to Property.

Do you have questions? Please contact us for more information or to schedule a showing.

Property

This beautiful parcel borders BLM (Bureau of Land Management) with sweeping vistas and lots of varied terrain. It is 41.83 acres in SW Apache County, between Snowflake and Concho, AZ. There is good access on county maintained roads. The elevation is 5600 feet, and the annual temperature goes from a winter low of about 10 degrees to a high of about 90 degrees in the summer.

Renewable Energy Off-Grid Property

(Being "off-grid" means not being hooked up to any electric utility company. Electricity may be from solar power and/or a wind generator. Typically there will be no brown outs or power surges.) No more utility bills.

Our property has a powerful photo-voltaic solar energy electrical system with generator backup. The deep well with abundant pristine water is pumped by its own separate solar panels.

Excellent Alternative Energy Location for Solar and Wind Power

This mild climate location is very well suited for alternative energy. The sky is usually sunny with few or no clouds, providing excellent solar energy, both for electricity and for hot water. There is an abundance of wind available for a wind power generator if so desired. The entire surrounding area is populated with off the grid homes and properties. Many of these energy self-sufficient homes use hybrid alternative energy systems which combine both photo-voltaic solar power and wind generator power.

Solar Power is Dependable

On this alternative energy property, electrical power is generated by a powerful PV solar energy system that is set up and functioning. Also, there is an automatic propane-powered generator for backup in the case of a string of cloudy days. You are your own power company!

There is phone service installed to the house and hi-speed Internet installed via a Wild Blue satellite transceiver.

Clean Water and Good Air Found Here

Factual and important issues pertaining to buying an Arizona country home: For those who have experience living in the rural West, one commodity that is often lacking, and most important, is a plentiful and high quality water source. Below this property is one of the largest and best aquifers in the country -- the Coconino Aquifer. The pristine water is pumped by solar power up from a 450 foot well; this water tastes great and is virtually unlimited. The well has a self-contained solar pump that automatically keeps a 3,000 gal. storage tank full at all times. There is an under-ground pump house that provides pressure water to the house plus three water hydrants on the property.

Another valuable commodity is the clean air. We are in one of the most clear air areas in the nation. The Milky Way looks like you can reach up and touch it on clear nights. From some vantage points, you can often see mountains over a hundred miles away. When the moon is full, you can read a newspaper!

Good Access

Access is good on county maintained roads. From the log home to the highway, it is 3-1/2 miles on a well maintained gravel county road. It is then eight miles to the small town of Concho and about 30 minutes farther to the much larger towns of Show Low & Pinetop-Lakeside, Arizona. A large full service hospital is located there, as well as several big-box stores. Also, there is commuter air service in Show Low that connects with the International airport in Phoenix. The Sunrise ski area is just south of Show Low, and the area is loaded with fishing lakes and outdoor sports of every kind.

The White Mountains Area of Arizona

This is big, wide-open ranching country with free running Antelope, Deer, and occasional Elk, as well as cattle and the odd cowboy. This is freedom. There are no restrictions on having horses, barns, shops, or anything you may want on these 41+ acres. The house site is high with an expansive view and plenty of room to stretch out. This is the quintessential property for the old traditional self-reliant, individualist American family. It has all the amenities of living in town without the limitations, and other things, that come with living in a crowded urban environment!
