The elevation as well as the latitude here on the Colorado Plateau in Northern Arizona influences the weather. The elevation provides for the cool summers, yet we avoid the severely cold winters.
Four Seasons in Northeastern Arizona
All four seasons have their special attributes: In the winter we get some snow, usually the accumulations are around an inch or two, and gone by noon. However, it is common to get one winter storm that will provide good moisture and an accumulation of eight to ten inches. The temperatures can be below freezing in the morning, but it warms up to "shirtsleeve" weather by noon.

An Occasional Winter Snow
In the spring, March can come in like a Lion, but leads to beautiful spring days.
The summers are unusual in that by the time the temperatures climb into the high 80's to low 90's, we have the beautiful monsoon season. On a typical July and August day, the sky is clear in the morning and about noon you can see cumulus clouds starting to form to the southwest as moist unstable air is forced up the Mogollon Rim. By early afternoon the sun is blocked with clouds and very often you are treated to a cooling rain shower. A major portion of the moisture comes during the monsoon season. There is a "second spring" during this time and pastures and wildflowers come alive.
The fall here is a truly great time of the year. The days are mild with crisp mornings, sunny days and the most comfortable temperatures imaginable.
